#6. Life in the Fast-Lane OR Slow-Motion?

In the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip, they're racing lickety-split downhill in a wagon. Suddenly Calvin yells out: "We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are!"
What is the pace of your life? Are you in a race to get to 'somewhere'? Do you take time to smell the coffee (or the roses)? Do you find time each day just to be with youself -- doing nothing? Do you like being all alone with you?

Questions -- why all these questions? Because inquiring minds want to know! I want to hear lots of answers ... from you. Share how fast you're cruisin' through your life -- or how time seems to be standing still? And how do you feel about it?

Hurry up and tell me now, tell me now. I'm wait-ing . . . . .

OH Gosh, where does one start! There are times my life is in the fast lane and I'M frustrated, but then that day comes, that I can be on the golf course, on Gods green plush grass that he provided just for me today, with the birds up in these beautiful pine trees and the angels just floating everywhere harmonizing with the birds singing only to me. I'M in awe of it all. That is when I enjoy being alone with me. I feel so good about myself, my heart just flutter's with the love that I feel deep inside. This moment, this day, right now, theres this glorious, magical feeling that I have, I feel the presence of God, I feel today as if the angels had lifted me up and took me on this journey to a paradise I have never known. What an experience it was. As for how well did I do on the golf course, well, I lost a few balls, when I hit my ball with my #7 iron it hit a golfer in the head, (thank God he was allright)lost another ball in the lake.
Did I care how I golfed today? Naaaa, I was in Gods country just enjoying the beautiy, the delightful music to my ears, and the love I felt in my heart. And the aroma of those roses were like no other...Thank You God for this magical day.

Well the only way I know how to discribe the pace of my life is like a snail, s-l-o-w- moving...
very slow. I am never in a hurry for anything. Do I like to spend time with me? Nope, the head chatter keeps on going, I can't seem to stop it. I have'nt smelled the roses, but for sure I have smelled the coffee. Other than that life is good. As far as the reply from Savvy goes, well she's euphoric, I'D like to know what she put's in her coffee! I could use some of that!

Well, Virgil,I don't live in the fast lane and I do smell the coffee. I also like being with me all alone, have me to myself as they say. I love me and I love my world. I take life one day at a time, "live for today" I say. Do you agree Virgil? What an imagination the lady above (Savvy) has. Or is what she discribes true? Now my inquiring mind wants to know!

The pace in my life is rather slow, I take it one day at a time, I enjoy what God puts in front of me.And I really like my me time to be alone just with myself. I find I can really identify with my thinking when IM alone with me. I get to really focas on what I have done and where IM going. I like to think I move kinda slow. I really am thankful for what God presents me with and the love within. I look around everyday at the beauty and all the great people that I share this magnificent world with. And of course I like being alone with me. It is great to meditate, get inside your heart and just be there. And while IM there I feel Gods presence. What a fullfilling feeling, what a rush!

Hello Virgil,
I'M soory but I know nothing about heart meditation. What are you refering to? Fran

F.Ingals,
"I know nothing about heart meditation"

Usually the process of meditation is presented as an attempt to use your mind ... to quiet your mind. This is quite difficult since the job of your mind is to think -- not to be quiet.

Question: Where are you inside your body? In your head -- behind your eyes. Right? Well, I teach my students to move their focus away from their head and go to their spiritual heart, located in the center of the upper torso.

Your meditation or quiet time then becomes much easier and more effective. Your thoughts will cease much quicker.

I wrote an essay in our website that might add further info:

http://www.unitychapel.net/Essay_Pages/Essay-24.html

From the site, you can email me if you want further help. Good Luck.

I know we should only comment once on your think pieces, however, I have this need to want to share this part of my life with all of you.
This was a cold and breezey afternoon out on the golf course today, the pace was slow, no hurry, want to enjoy looking at the blue sky, the sweet tinkering of the drops, a few little noises and the wind whistles on the tree tops. Today, I felt the wind move under my feet. That heavenly sky, I felt as if I could fall into the sky, and time would pass me by. God is forever imaginative, colorful, and glorious in what he designs. And he puts it out there just fo me. Who would want to move at a fast pace when all of this beauty that surrounds us, and we become awe-struck by it all. Lately, most of my days have been this way, and for sure I will move in a slow pace for I want to take it all in. I can't get enough, my life is slowley changing for the better. And I want more...so much more. And I will reach out and grab it!
I feel more and more everyday the presence of God in my heart.I feel Gods love for me in my heart, and it's a wonderful feeling.

Because what ever he is doing for you I would like some of that, and most likely so would everyone else! The pace in my life Virgil, is fast. And I have no me time. I miss out alot of the good things in life. Maybe one day soon I can be like Savvy, and enjoy that golf course and get to enjoy all that beauty. She sure is inchanting isn't she?

Savvy,
It's quite ok to make more than one comment. Sometimes, you may want to respond to another person's comment (as I often do). But please do remember to use the chalk sparingly.

Robert Miller,
Congratulations on getting high from our commentators, and I look forward to your visit someday.

My everyday life is pretty slow and boring. I have no imagination, can't see through those thick glasses! Although I try to live my life one day at a time.WhatI need is some excitement in my life, someone to share it with. There are no takers at this time.Life at times can be questionable, if you know what I mean.

Hello Virgil,
May I call you by your name?
My name is Rohnah and I found you web site and I an interested in finding out more about metaphysical christianity. What is it exactly? I am ashamed to say that I haven't been in a church in years, only because I don't feel comfortable.Maybe I can benifit by what your church believes. I recently moved in Woodhaven, so I am not too familier. I read all of your think pieces and all your comments,Wow! what responses you get. Are these people from your church? There are some very outgoing people. I like the one reply from the first response. She sure is loving. Is she a member there? That sure tells a story about the congregation doesn't it? Can you tell me where your church is at? Thank You for your time. Rohnah

Rohnah,
Yes, I respond to my first name.

Metaphysical means "beyond the physical" -- in other words: Spiritual. Unity does not zero in upon the historical or literal account, but seeks to understand the deeper meaning of Scripture.

Unity teaches that God loves you and is everywhere-present, which also means God is "within you".

In our Unity website, you will find information about metaphysical christianity in a variety of forms on the following pages: Unity Beliefs (includes a question/answer audio called The Unity Way of Life; Audio Messages (from Sunday services); Metaphysical Essays; Listen to a Prayer (1-minute audio prayers).

Our church is 3/4 mile east of I-75 on the right side. Blessings!

I appreciate all you do

Thank You, it was well recieved. By the way, I do live in the fast lane, I'M forever going here and there, always running, no time in between to stop and smell the coffee. I need to change my way of living, and take the time to observe what is around me, where I've been. IT is hard to make these changes after years of rushing through life as if there were no tommorrow.
I also want to express the gratitude I feel since I have gotten into your web site, I enjoy your blog site, but I really get into your audio prayers, and your essay's are fun to read, I have gotten a lot from them Reverend. Thank You for the advice, I feel my life is changing for the better, I look at life now with an opened mind and with love in my heart, thanks to you. Rohnah

MORNING PRAYER

If we can take the time to read long jokes, stories, etc., we should give the same respect to this prayer (or any prayer).

Prayer is a form of communication and meditation with the Creator of All Things. It places us in a more "perfect" realm. You find peace, tranqulity and an inner energy/strengnth to move forward in a faced paced world.

Friends, who pray together, stay together.

So...

Relax your mind and humble your heart to focus on Christ. Allow God to be the only person on your mind while you read this prayer.
~
~
~
Dear Lord, I thank you for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning.

I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me.

Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.

Broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God's eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing, and receive the forgiveness of God.

And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus' example -- to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. And when I can't pray, You listen to my heart.

Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others.

I pray for those who are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those who don't believe. But I thank you that I believe. I believe that God changes people and God changes things.

I pray for all my sisters and brothers and for each and every family member in their households. I pray for Peace, Love and Joy in their homes. I pray that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.

I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight.

I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly..

This is my prayer.

In Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

Do you run through each day on the fly
When you ask "How are you?" do you hear the reply?
When the day is done, do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores running through your head?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

Ever told your child, We'll do it tomorrow
And in your haste, not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, Let a good friendship die
'Cause you never had time to call and say "Hi" ?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift . . .

Thrown away . . .

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.
